Lugnut Wins Over Anaheim at Great Race Finish in Anaheim, CA
(KANNAPOLIS, NC - August 1, 2007) - After cheering Great Race competitors as they crossed the starting line in Concord June 30, Lowe's Motor Speedway's LugNut raced to Anaheim, California, with a checkered flag from the legendary superspeedway to wave the Great Racers across the finish line.
In Anaheim, LugNut met WildWings, mascot of Anaheim's Stanley Cup Championship hockey team, the Mighty Ducks. The two helped sustain the excitement as the Great Racers finished their 14-day, 4,000-mile cross-country race.
1st place winners were 15-year-old Charlie Wheeler and his uncle Bob LaBine from Lone Tree, CO, and Phoenix, AZ, and LugNut was there to witness the finish and to represent Concord, North Carolina, and Lowe's Motor Speedway.
And, reports are that LugNut and his antics completely won over Anaheim.
"He was absolutely phenomenal at the finish line. It was a complete delight to work with him and he definitely represents your organization brilliantly!" reported Meghan Schinderle, Public Information Specialist/Event Planner with the City of Anaheim.
And Jennifer Rossol of the Anaheim 150 Team concurred. "It was such a pleasure having him here - he really knew how to rally the crowd!"
LugNut's trip to Anaheim was co-sponsored by the Cabarrus County Convention & Visitors Bureau and Lowe's Motor Speedway.

Cabarrus County - Concord & Kannapolis
Concord North Carolina, Cabarrus County's largest city, was established in 1796 near the center of the county to serve as the seat of local government. It began as a small hamlet and became the major cotton market for an area that included parts of several surrounding counties. Concord retains its handsome neighborhoods of fine Italianate, Queen Anne, and Colonial Revival residences to the north and south of the central business district. Concord was named as a symbol of harmony after much lively discussion about whether the center of trade should be in the northern or southern part of the county. James William Cannon developed Kannapolis, North Carolina, Cabarrus County's second largest city, when he undertook a major expansion of the Cannon Manufacturing Company in 1907. Initially, Kannapolis consisted primarily of houses erected by Cannon Manufacturing and Cabarrus Cotton Mills. This housing remains intact today, and Kannapolis has one of the largest and best-preserved mill villages in the entire South. In Cannon Village in Kannapolis (Dale Earnhardts hometown), race fans can tour landmarks along The Dale Trail and pay respects to the NASCAR legend at the Dale Earnhardt Tribute with its larger-than-life statue, granite memorial and Sam Bass art exhibit. |
