Pittsburgh sits at a unique confluence of rivers unlike any other in the world, diverse and more abundant than any other state except Alaska. The three rivers that meet in Pittsburgh are actually a vast watershed of more than a dozen unique creeks and river systems that include more than 30,000 miles of rivers and streams extending into New York and West Virginia. These clean and accessible waters have become a stunning icon of Pittsburgh's environmental transformation, honoring the city with events such as the 35th Bassmaster Classic in 2005.

Great Race 2007

The Great Race in Pittsburgh truly lives up to its name. On Sunday, September 30, 2007 it will all come together as individual runners and walkers, corporate teams, wheelchair athletes, entertainers and hometown fans take to the city streets for the 30th Richard S. Caliguiri City of Pittsburgh Great Race presented by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Rated among the Top Twenty Multi-Race Events by USA Track & Field's publication On The Roads, The Great Race attracts nearly 10,000 athletes annually. These athletes come from 35 states and 30 different countries. While these runners receive a great deal of attention, it is the hometown athletes who compete year after year that make this event so special. Approximately 91% of the participants live in the Pittsburgh area, making the race one of the region's finest traditions.

The Great Race consists of many various competitions: 10K Run, 5K Run, 5K Walk, Team Competition, Heavyweight Competition, Wheelchair, and Junior Great Race. There is also one competition that leads up to the Great Race: On Your Mark with Highmark Youth Challenge.

In 2007, athletes can expect to find animation on the streets, as marching bands dot the course to the finish line. Once the competitors reach the finish line, they are invited to join their friends and families for the Post Race Party, including the presentation of awards.

The Great Race enjoys an outstanding tradition of excellence. Be a part of this remarkable event and winning tradition! For more information, call The Great Race Hotline at 412.255.2493 or visit the Great Race website.
